His question: What are the 3 biggest challenges in your country right now? If you’re not Up-to-date on the news, you can respond on a personal level.

I don’t follow the news much; however, one doesn’t need to in order to see big issues in my country.

#1. Racism has been and forever will be the biggest challenge. Sadly, it’s the easiest one to fix. No motherfucker is better than the next. We all are immortal and we all hurt. One day we all are going to die. The ones who are remembered choose to live life with intention and a long term purpose.

#2. Gun violence, unfortunately, has crept it’s way up under the wing of issue 1. I don’t understand why the world feels shooting is going to solve problems. It’s everywhere though. Just last week, right outside a local public library, here in Cleveland, a man shot another man over some weed. The victim didn’t survive. He was 19.

#3. Poverty is the third biggest issue. Again, I’m starting to believe this is a global issue, but I don’t understand why. There’s more empty houses in the United States than there are homeless individuals??!!! It makes no sense. There’s been reports in the last few years where laws and restrictions have been placed about what can be done with outdated food or overstock.

It seems that alittle more love and kindness can solve all kinds of problems… Or maybe I’m just nieve.

Fandango’s Provacative Question:

Do you concur with Mr. Russell’s perspective? Why or why not?

We all are born with intelligence. There isn’t a person who doesn’t have it. Here Mr Russell is comparing intelligence of Group A with Group B. I don’t agree with that in the least. It’s morally distributing and it emphasizing the idea of bullying. We all are intelligent. We are simply diverse in the areas of what we know.

Now, the matter of ignorance. Some of us do feel a sense of righteousness. That’s fact. It goes without saying, individuals who fly lips, sink ships. These individuals choose to verbalize what comes to mind, without filter, and without thought. It sparks concern for me to question

  • Their integrity and character.
  • What kind of childhood did they have.
  • Do they imitate his /her parents.
  • The universal truth vs what they truly believe to be fact.

It’s a character flaw to consider oneself better than, higher than, and/or more intelligent than anyone else. There’s just so many elements to consider ; however, rather than judging.

On the other hand, there are individuals who speak few but true words. They listen with purpose, question in flowing information, and may even research on their own to find answers. These individuals doubt because learning is growth. Learning is change. They understand the concept that we humans should be lifelong students, and that knowledge is power. It shouldn’t stop with a high school or college degree. It doesn’t stop when someone steps outside an established school, or ” educational setting”.

That’s who they are. These individuals may have been raised by a parent who understands this or may have developed this perspective on his/her own.

What I know for certain, the ideas that escape our mouths define a piece of us. This information can birth so many versions of the idea, truth or lie. We are responsible for what we say; and it’s wise to be certain rather than to feel like a fool.

We’re all very capable of demeaning something as false. Likewise, we’re all capable of stating a fact. It’s not a matter of stupid vs intelligent. It’s a matter of what one chooses to do with the given information.

Written for Fandango’s Provocative Question

His question is this:

“How do you feel about people who always seem to exaggerate when relating a story? Do you equate embellishment with lying? As a blogger, when, if ever, is stretching the truth, other than when writing fiction, permissible?”

My thoughts:

People who exaggerate are individuals who seek acceptance from others. These are insecure individuals who need to be ” important ” in the eyes of others. These are individuals who need to feel “useful” and “valuable” to others. These are individuals who stretch the truth simply to spice up their life because they feel their own is insufficient/boring.

I don’t feel this is a means of lying, just as deception isn’t a form of lying. It has a life of it’s own: exaggeration. That’s stating the truth but on a larger scale.

I’m not sure, aside from story telling, why one would do such a thing. The only scenario that I feel would hold this acceptable is in the event of a surprise. For example, if a child senses a surprise party, a parent may exaggerate the truth to keep the surprise.

His question:

“What is more important to you, doing the right thing or doing things right?”

In my opinion, it’s equally important to do the right thing AND to do things right.

Sometimes, we don’t know how to do things right. When we haven’t been taught a skill, it’s likely we’ll first do it incorrectly. Thereafter, it’s important that we do it right.

Now on the other hand, doing the right thing is usually pretty clear. It’s the choice that falls in line with the laws and ethics. This choice reflects a person’s character. This is important because it keeps us safe and secure. It keeps the peace, so they say.

Of the two, being that we don’t always know the right thing or how to do something right, it’s important we take the opportunities to grow and learn.
