Release Party Next Month!

The BFG in Review

I’m not one for much of the mythology and science fiction/fantasy movie genres; however, this particular movie caught my likings.

The orphaned Sophie demonstrates her amazing courage early in the movie. The town drunks were out in the street carrying on. She yelled to them that children were sleeping and they need to leave our she’d call the police.

Shortly after, she meets The BFG. She’s frightened, naturally; but, their friendship develops shortly after she arrives at Giant Land.

Roald Dahl’s book was first published in 1987.

In 1989, the animated movie was released.

Then, in 2016, a remake of the beloved story was released.

These are my top five reasons why I love this movie:

  1. The conversation between the gentle giant and Sophie is realistic. He tells her why he had brought her to him home, and the expierence with the boy who had seen him.
  2. The BFG quickly grows to care about Sophie, providing a shower, scraps for clothing, and a bed among the glittering jars.
  3. The two characters respect each other’s thoughts, create a plan, and head to see the Queen.
  4. The acceptance Queen Victoria has of The BFG, the feast, and her humbled spirit. She doesn’t act prudent or better than anyone else.
  5. Sophie recieves a wonderful home in the castle, but still maintains her lovely friendship with The BFG.

It’s an adorably fuzzy feeling story. Though a bit unusual, and only slightly action packed, but it teaches valuable lessons while still entertaining the audience.
