Friday Fictioneers: Dancing Flames

Chloe and Chek met at a coffee shop five years ago. He was almost finished with grad school, and she was just promoted to Assistant Professor at the local community college. They both are introverts, by nature. Quiet nights, Fridays at home, they’ve grown comfortable in their silence.

Of course they’ve gone to dinner and conversed. There’s just something about the silence, each has previously mentioned, that is comfortably pleasing. On this chilly October evening, as the guests drank and tortured the karaoke music with off key resonance, the couple sat and watched the flames dance.

Written for Rochelle Wisoff-Field’s Friday Fictioneers. You can read more about the challenge here.
